Frequently asked questions

Taking the first step into counselling can bring up many questions and uncertainties. At A Place to Land in Scunthorpe, we believe in transparency, empathy, and providing a reassuring environment where you feel fully informed from the start.

Everything you need to know

Below you will find clear answers about our sessions, pricing, confidentiality, and what to expect during your therapeutic journey with us.

What service do you provide?

I am an integrative counsellor, which means I work from a variety of modalities using a variety of tools to help you achieve your desired outcomes. With each session tailored to your individual needs.

What is counselling?

Counselling provides a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for people to explore how they are feeling. It can help people face unresolved issues including past trauma. Counselling can be empopwering for those who have never had a safe space to feel heard and listened to. It can also help you to learn about yourself, resulting in the ability to understand yourself more.

How do I get in touch or book a session?

You can get in touch by completing the enquiry form. Once this has been received I aim to make contact within 24 hours (unless at a weekend when enquiries will be answered on the next working day), to arrange an initial contact session to discuss what has brought you to counselling.

How much are the sessions?

Sessions are priced at £50 for 50 minutes however, I am a firm believer that everyone should have access to support for their mental health. Due to this, concessions may be available to students, veterans and those in low-income households. If you fall into one of these catergories please do not hesitate to get in touch and options can be discussed. There is also the option of block bookings at a discounted price.

How many sessions will I need?

As everyone is different this is determined on a client to counsellor basis. Some clients may only need 10 sessions; others may need more. This will be discussed throughout the counselling journey and adapted when and where needed.

How often is counselling required?

To help build a solid foundation and form a strong therapeutic alliance I feel sessions should be on a weekly basis however, I am aware that for several reasons this may not be accessible for everyone. With this in mind, the frequency of sessions will be determined on a individual basis agreed between you and I.

Are sessions confidential?

All sessions are confidential however, as a member of the BACP I have a duty of care so there are limitations to this. Confidentiality may be broken if there is a safeguarding which will be explained within the contract. In cases where confidentiality is required to be broken, where possible this will be discussed with yourself first.

A confidentiality agreement will be included within your welcome pack, outlining the limitations to confidentiality and the ethical guidelines I am required to follow.

Is the first session free?

Although the first session is not free, there is a free 20 minute initial contact session.

What if I need to cancel or rearrange an appointment?

To cancel appointments it is asked that notice 48 hours notice prior to the appointment is given. Bookings will be refunded if this notice is given, if given less than this there may be a fee. To rearrange an appoinment 48 hours notice prior to the appointment is required, with the fee transferred to the new appointment day and time.

What if I am having financial difficulties?

I am a firm beleiver that everyone should be able to access support in times of need, for their mental health or a place to work through any unresolved trauma/issues. With this is mind concessions are available for students, veterans and those on low-income households. If you are unsure if any of these apply please get in touch and this can be discussed based on individual needs and circumstances.

What is the initial contact session (ICS)?

The initial contact session is a way for me into introduce myself, allowing us to start building the therapeutic alliance. It is used to help build an idea of what it is that has brought you to counselling. The session is also a way for yourself to determine whether I am the right counsellor for you. There is no obligation after the ICS to book a session with me if you feel I am not the right counsellor for you.

How are sessions delivered?

As each inidividual is unique sessions can be delivered in several ways. They can be either online, telephone, walk and talk, with some face-to-face sessions are available in a more formal setting on request. Sessions are offered in a variety of ways so that those with limited mobility/finances/resources are still able to access my services. Delivery of sessions can be discussed when answering your enquiry.

How will my informations/data be stored?

All information held by myself will be with your consent and will be stored following the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR). When you send the enquiry you are agreeing to these terms. Any personal details or session notes will only be held for as long as is relevant, and is no longer required by law or professional guidelines.
